Conflicting Messages

We are living in a world where there are conflicting messages.  I don’t know if you watch the news, but if you do, there’s a good chance you’re depressed and worried about the economy.  It’s hard to escape all the negative.

You’ve heard people talk about the bad economy and say, “We don’t know what’s going to happen with the economy and with oil prices…we might be stuck here for a while."

Jesus, on the other hand, says, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:25-26)

You hear the politicians talking about Social Security and the next generation and the debt.  You’re worried if you’re going to have enough for later.  But Jesus says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

I know the television is telling you one thing, but God’s Word tells you the truth.  God is in control.  He has a plan.  We can trust Him.  When you know and understand that truth, it will set you free.  You won’t live a stingy, greedy, selfish and worried life – you’ll live a life that honors God.
